SHROPSHIRE CHILDREN SAMPLE UNIVERSITY LIFE

CHILDREN FROM SCHOOLS across the Telford & Wrekin region will be given a chance to sample life at Shropshire’s university college next week.

A four-day Easter School will be held at Harper Adams University College, near Newport, for 34 Year Six pupils, aged 10 – 11, drawn from primary schools across Telford & Wrekin.

Funded by NOF, the New Opportunities Fund, the Easter School is a widening participation event aimed at introducing children from a more diverse range of backgrounds to the possibilities of Higher Education.

The children taking part will be from among those showing early potential of being able to go on into HE and do well, but who because of their background and family circumstances have no prior knowledge or experience of HE.

Sessions during the event will include a look at the properties of water, a trip to the small animals centre on Harper Adams campus and a chocolate tasting session.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: Wednesday, April 16, 2003: 1pm – 3pm. During this time, different groups of children will be working on campus either in the labs, in the small animals centre or taking part in a blindfold chocolate tasting.
